Receiving Love. Ever think about that? What does “receiving love” look like? What does it feel like?
Love can come in all ways, in all forms, with all different feelings, but we often don’t take the time to see it, feel it, or even witness it.
Have you ever stopped to think about how the simplest of gestures make you feel? When someone just smiles at you, don’t you just want to smile back or smile at someone else? A supportive comment……a gentle gesture……a patient friend……a compassionate stranger—these are all in fact expressions of love.
When you “receive love”, do you recognize it? Are you realizing that love is all around you?…..all around us?…..in the small acts that make our days…are you “accepting” this love? Or are you just going about your life not paying attention to love?
Don’t feel bad. We’ve all done that.
As I wrote in Giving Love, when you give away love, it comes right back – there is such joy in giving…..but if you have not “accepted” despite being given love, then you may not even realize how full of love you really are!
Receiving is one thing. Accepting is another. Giving comes from our recognition that we are “full” and have enough to share. So it all starts with your own awareness……how can you “give” what you don’t “have”?– Hmmmmm. Try this:
Just for today, can you “look” for the love that is all around you? Just try to notice just how much love you receive in one day. Here is what it may look like:
Your spouse or partner calls just to say hey, I was thinking of you!! Love!!!
Your child says, “ I missed you”!!! Love !!!
Your girlfriend stops by to bring you dinner!!! Love !!!
Your co-worker buys you a cup of coffee!!! Love !!!
Your pet greets you at the door!!! Love !!!
Your co worker that is off work sends you a picture of their grandchild to share!!!! Love!!!
Your son calls you after having an argument with you and says I’m sorry!!! Love !!!!
A perfect stranger lets you go ahead of them at the grocery line!!!! Love!!!!
A cop lets you off with a warning!!!! Love!!!!!
You find that $20 bill you’ve been missing, in your dryer !!!! Love!!!!
Even some of the events which we think are “negative” can contain a good amount of love (if we look real deep)—at the minimum, negative things are always reminding us to love ourselves more.
Often times, we focus so much on thinking love only comes in a certain “form”……some sort of “nice package” with a “pretty life ribbon”….but that is not reality. We are being shown love every day, every moment, literally every second of the day. What are you looking at? 🙂
Let’s try this. What do we have to lose? Are you willing to receive and accept more love ?
